A small card tray or vide poche from the Zsolnay Pecs ceramics factory of Hungary. The Art Nouveau design, featuring a crayfish (or lobster) and snake, is enveloped in the firm's signature green-gold eosin iridescent metallic glaze. Very good, undamaged condition measuring 5.75 in. diameter.
At times, Zsolnay reissued objects based on the firm's most popular, historical designs. This dish is a reissue of a popular turn of the 20th century Art Nouveau small tray. This base bears the Zsolnay 1868 five churches mark used from 1968 to 1996 to commemorate the centenary of the Zsolnay pottery.
