A vintage Scandinavian rya rug designed in the 1960s for EGE Rya De Luxe, a subsidiary of Denmark's most prestigious carpet manufacturer, EGE Taepper. This deep and dense midcentury design is 100% thick wool shag in a swirling abstract pattern, measuring 64 in. L x 40 in. W., 5 ft. 4 in. L x 3 ft. 4 in. W.

The rich color palette ranges from navy, cobalt, and robins egg blue with teal, green and golden orange/ochre accents. This artistic combination creates a bold and dynamic floor covering (or wall hanging) and this may be the reason Ege Rya featured this same design and color palette in a late 1960s print advertisement.

Traditional Scandinavian rya rugs or ryamatta are versatile pieces of home decor used interchangeably as carpets, wall hangings, and coverings for chairs, benches, or beds. This artistic textile was originally displayed as a wall hanging so it remains in very good condition with strong colors and barely any indication of wear. We had the rug professionally inspected and cleaned, as is our policy for all textiles. The rug has a wooden dowel at one end so a hanging wire can be attached for display on the wall or easily removed for placement on the floor. The original embossed leather tag is included, although no longer attached.
