Customer Reviews
Three original design mixed media drawings for writing instruments executed in shades of brown with black outlines and grey highlights by graphic designer, Jerome Gould, perhaps best known for creating the Pepsi logo. Each drawing is in good condition, mounted on cardboard with a textured grey matte measuring 9 in. W x 12 in, H.
Jerome Gould was one of the original “Madmen,” a CLIO award winning designer and President of Gould & Associates, Inc., an international industrial design and packaging firm based in Los Angeles. Gould achieved Designer of the Year recognition for his redesign of the Michelob beer bottle, created the iconic Pepsi logo and his work was included in MOMA’s 28th Annual Exhibition of Advertising and Editorial Art in 1949. Gould was a member of AIGA and the Society of Contemporary Designers, a group of graphic, product and exhibition designers which included Saul Bass, Alvin Lustig, John Follis and Louis Danziger. He cultivated an impressive roster of clients including Anheuser-Busch, JBL, Wedgwood and the Ford Motor Company, and created clever, functional packaging solutions for a range of household brands from Borax, Dial, and Libby to Morton salt. Gould credited his early studies with Bauhaus Professor Laszlo Moholy-Nagy in Chicago as the underlying influence in his work.
Provenance: Los Angeles Modern Auctions, The Estate of Jerome Gould.
