A pair of Christofle of Paris Art Deco coffee strainers from the original line of Gallia metal silver plated luxury goods. The coffee strainers rest atop a cup or mug and serve as an individual French press for a single cup of coffee. Made in France for use on luxury ocean liners, dating circa 1935-1945. Each strainer consists of three pieces: a round body, a pierced/perforated insert press basket (to strain the coffee grounds) and a lid. The silver-plated body and lid each have celluloid knob handles to prevent heat conduction. Fully marked with stamps Christofle adopted in 1935: Gallia / France alongside Christofle's knight figure flanked by ‘O’ and ‘C’, an abbreviation of Orfevrerie Christofle signifying silver plated Gallia metal (a pewter alloy) followed by Prod. / Christofle. Each strainer is in very good condition with a little surface wear and some polishing marks, measuring 3 in. height x 4.13 in. diameter (at base) x 2.5 in. diameter (at upper rim). Christofle designed a 45,000 piece Art Deco service for the Normandie ocean liner in 1935 and during the same period, equipped the Orient Express, and executed commissions for luxury hotels in Paris, Berlin, London, and Cairo.
