A large Art Deco flaring compote designed by Jean E. Puiforcat (1897-1945) in the 1930s for renowned silversmiths Puiforcat of Paris; the firm produced the form for several decades during the 20th century. The piece resembles an elegant, oversized chalice cup, resting on a stepped base with a contrasting column stem of black metal supporting a smooth flaring silver plate bowl. The piece comes with its original Puiforcat Paris dust bag and box.

The compote is of substantial weight and in good condition with a little tarnish, a few scratches at the base of the interior and faint polishing marks, measuring 7.13 in diameter x 5.25 in height. Stamped Puiforcat France underfoot with the company's pocket knife mark flanked by EP (for Émile Puiforcat, co-founder of the company) inside a square signifying plated silver. The box shows more wear with cracks at the edges and a separation at one side.
