A vintage circular bowl in hand-hammered and polished pewter by the renowned American silversmith and metal worker, Porter George Blanchard (1886-1973). The simple and elegant hollowware bowl was crafted in the Arts & Crafts style and polished to a highly reflective silver-like finish. The base bears the 'Hand Made' mark of Porter Blanchard for Gump's Department Store.

Blanchard originally designed 'The Tumble Home Bowl' form in the 1930s and this example dates to the mid-20th century. The bowl is in very good condition, measuring 2.5 in. H x 7.25 in. Diameter. There are a few spots, nicks, and superficial scratches, all typical of old pewter.

Porter Blanchard spent his career in California, maintaining studios in Burbank, followed by Hollywood, and Pacoima. He was a member of the Boston Society of Arts and Crafts; his designs in silver and art metal are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Oakland Museum of California, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York.
