Customer Reviews
A midcentury metal wall sculpture of Letitia, the Roman Goddess of joy, gaiety, and happiness, by American sculptor Evaline Clark Sellors (1903-1995). The elongated and abstracted face of cast aluminum dates circa 1960 and remains in very good condition with an original patina and just a few small scuffs and shallow scratches. Marked verso: "Letitia / Styled by DeWitt McKinley / Sculpted by Evaline Sellors". This piece of wall decor measures 14.13 in. H x 7.13 in. W x 1.75 in. D.
Evaline Clarke Sellors was born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1903. She studied art, illustration, and modeling before enrolling at the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Sellors won the institutions's William Emlen Cresson scholarship in 1929 and 1930, allowing her to study sculpture in Europe. After returning to Texas, Sellors co-founded The Texas School of Arts in 1932 with Sallie Gillespie and Blanche McVeigh. Sellors and McVeigh were also founding members of the Fort Worth Artists Guild. Sellors taught art at a number of institutions in the Fort Worth while executing commissions for the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Examples of her work are in the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art.
