A midcentury hand knotted “Drömträd” (Dreamtree) rya rug or wall hanging with 100% wool pile designed by textile artist Birgitta Salenius (b. 1935) in the early 1960s for Nordiska Industri AB (NIAB) of Göteborg, Sweden. Salenius's Scandinavian high-pile design on a handwoven linen and wool backing consists of a of a rich, dimensional ground of deep red with hints of fuchsia, orange and brown for depth. An overall geometric pattern of black lines radiates outward from a central axis with each branch terminating in alternating green and blue leaves. Rya rugs or ryamatta are traditional Scandinavian wool rugs characterized by their luxurious and shaggy high-pile. These versatile pieces of home decor were designed to be used interchangeably as carpets, bed coverings, and wall hangings. This plush rya was professionally cleaned and is in very good condition, measuring: 41 in. L x 31 in. W; 3 ft. 5 in. L x 2 ft. 7 in. W.
