A Scandinavian Modern tobacco jar / humidor designed by Nils Thorsson for Royal Copenhagen of Denmark in the 1960s. Thorsson's covered jar is from his BACA series in neutral shades of brown, beige, and white featuring abstracted bird and flower motifs framed by decorative borders. Marks on the base date production between 1969 and 1973. The midcentury covered box is in very good condition and the lid retains its original sponge. The box measures 4.88 in. H x 5.25 in. W x 5.25 in. D. with full printed factory marks on the base: Royal Copenhagen / Denmark / Fajance over Nils Thorsson's artist cipher. Form number 3211 is hand-painted and impressed underfoot and joined by an original Royal Copenhagen sticker. Nils Johan Thorvald Thorsson (1898-1975) was a Swedish-Danish ceramic artist, a prolific designer, and the Artistic Director of Royal Copenhagen. Thorsson's work exemplifies mid-century Danish modernism; he designed the Baca production range in the 1960s.
