Customer Reviews
Two midcentury Murano glass vases by 20th century Italian glass artist and designer Alfredo Barbini (1912-2007). Each champagne-colored cased glass vase is enhanced with tiny flecks of gold, creating a dynamic, almost iridescent surface with glittering aventurine ribbons swirling upward around each slender and elegant art glass vessel. Very good condition with a few scratches on the base, measuring 9.63 inches height. One vase retains its original silver foil label, which is faded but reads: Venetian / Made by / Alfredo Barbini / For Weil Ceramics & Glass / Murano / Italy. The remains of an old and unreadable) sticker remain on the same base. Alfredo Barbini was born in Murano to a family continuously associated with the island's glass industry from the 15th century. Barbini began his career at Ferro Toso's glassworks at thirteen years of age and remained with the furnace for seventeen years. Barbini became master glassblower at Cristalleria di Venezia e Murano and continued developing his skills and reputation as an innovative master glassblower and designer with Zecchin & Martinuzzi, Seguso Vetri d’Arte, Vetreria Artistica Muranese Società Anonima, Luigi Scarpa Croce, Salviati, and Gino Cenedese & C. He founded his own firm called Vetreria Alfredo Barbini in 1950.
