A glamorous set of six champagne coupes / martini glasses in gilded sterling silver by noted American metalsmith, designer and jeweler, Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972).

These Hollywood Regency-style drinking vessels come directly from the artist's estate; she exhibited the set in several museum and gallery shows throughout her career, retaining these pieces for her personal collection. One of the six drinking vessels is illustrated on page 98, fig. 3.24 of The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann, 2012.

This is a matching set but there are two different marks represented underfoot. Four marked: M. ZIMMERMANN / MAKER over her MZ cipher / STERLING; two marked STERLING with MARIE ZIMMERMANN MAKER around her MZ cipher. Very good original and unpolished condition with age and handling-related wear to the gilt surfaces and spots of tarnish showing through the gold. Each stem weights 4.2 oz / 120 g, holds 6 fl. oz and measures 4.38 in. H x 4.5 in. Dia. (at rim) x 2.75 in Dia. (foot).

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds the largest collection of objects by Marie Zimmermann, making their first acquisition in 1922. A variety of her jewelry and metalwork designs are also in the collections of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University and the Columbus Museum of Art.

Provenance: the Estate of Marie Zimmermann.
