A set of large salt and pepper shakers in solid silver by Marie Zimmermann, designed in the Neoclassical Revival style with swag and garland engraving and urn-shaped finials. The pieces come directly from this American metalworker's estate and are illustrated on page 126 of The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann, 2011.

The antique design reflects Zimmermann's ability to interpret historical sources for her clients. Each piece is exquisitely ornamented with decorative bands accented by garlands of intricately hand-engraved leaves. The pierced tops are surmounted by urn-shaped finials.

The set is in very good condition and marked on each base with Marie Zimmermann's MZ artist's cipher in a circle surrounded by three stars. There are no monograms or silver marks but each piece tests as high-quality silver. Together, the set weighs over a pound (18.2 oz / 517 g); the salt shakers measure 6.25 in. H x 2.13 in. diameter (at base) and the pepper shakers measure 5.38 in. H x 1.5 in. diameter (at base).

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds the largest collection of objects by Marie Zimmermann, making their first acquisition in 1922. A variety of her jewelry and metalwork designs are also in the collections of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University and the Columbus Museum of Art.
