Part Number:413
An American Arts and Crafts era fluted and flaring shallow bowl by American metalworker, Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972).  This simple and abstracted lotus blossom form composed of eight flaring petals with pointed tips resembles designs from the Chinese T'ang dynasty (618-906 CE) and illustrates Zimmermann's ability to interpret historical design sources for her clients. The dish has a darkened natural patina with visible hammer marks overall.  Two similar examples of Zimmermann's fluted flori-form designs for a dish and bowl are illustrated on page 290 in The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann, 2012.

The dish dates circa 1915 and is in very good original condition with expected scuffs on base and some age-related surface wear. Fully marked underfoot: MARIE ZIMMERMANN MAKER around her MZ artist's cipher over form/design number 20; measuring 7.75 in. diameter.

Provenance: The Estate of Marie Zimmermann.
