An English tankard style mug designed by New Zealand born architect, potter, and designer, Keith Murray (1892-1981) for Wedgwood. Murray designed this commemorative mug for the 1937 coronation of King Edward VIII which was canceled upon his abdication. Featuring Murray's off-white satin "Moonstone" glaze with ribbed Art Deco details and an applied likeness of the king in profile surmounted by a crown. Full printed marks on the base: TO COMMEMORATE / THE CORONATION / OF HIS MAJESTY / KIND EDWARD VIII / 1937 / WEDGWOOD / MADE IN ENGLAND / Keith Murray. The mug is in very good condition with typical crazing, measuring 4.75 in. height x 3.63 in diameter (at base).
