A complete set of 12 Art Deco knife rests designed as a menagerie of different animals in their original fitted case. The chromium-plated cast metal figures are likely of European origin, circa 1920s. The set is similar to the animal knife rests designed by Edouard Marcel Sandoz for Christofle Gallia of France.
The vintage pieces are unmarked and in good condition showing expected areas of surface wear related to age and use. The largest knife rest (lobster) measures just over 4 in. L. The fitted box measures 13.25 in. L x 8.63 in. W x 1.63 in. H. The exterior is distressed, showing scuffs and scratches, particularly at the corners and one of the hinges is missing.
