A superb turn of the 20th century covered box in porcelain faience from Ernst Wahliss (1837-1900) of Turn-Teplitz.

Hand-decorated in the Jugendstil taste with a polychrome, partially lustered metallic glaze. Wahliss's "Pergamon" design features stylized poppies, leaves and stems outlined in black, showing a strong Japanese design influence.

Fully marked underfoot with red Vienna turn EW stamp alongside "Pergamon 5162/2516/20./ IV" hand-written in black slip. Very good condition, no chips cracks or repair, measuring 2.25 in. H x 3.75 in diameter.

Ernst Wahliss was Vienna's leading porcelain retailer by the late 1880s. He purchased the Alfred Stellmacher factory in Turn-Teplitz in 1894, producing decorative ceramics under the name Ernst Wahliss Kunst Porzellan und Fayence Fabrik.
