A large English Art Deco era Royal Doulton flambé vase artist signed by Harry Nixon (1886 - 1955), circa 1930. The baluster form vessel has a high-fired ornamental flambé glaze of deep, dark reds shading to violet, black and mottled gold.
Nixon worked closely with Charles Noke on the decoration of Dolton's early 10th century Flambé, Chang, and Sung ware lines, using metallic oxides to produce sophisticated glazes unique in color and pattern to every piece.
The vase bears a printed factory crown and lion flambé mark underfoot, alongside Harry Nixon's hand-painted HN artist cipher.
Very good condition with several tiny glaze pops, free from chips, cracks, or repair, measuring 10.25 in. H.
