A large Art Deco era English Sung Ware vase of baluster form from Royal Doulton, ca. 1920s.
The vase has a high-fired flambé glaze of deep, dark red shading to black, blue and violet. Doulton's chief designer, Charles Noke (1858-1941), used metallic oxides to produce these ornamental glazes resulting in sophisticated patterns and combinations of color unique to individual pieces.
The vase bears a printed factory Flambé mark (Crown & Lion B.18) underfoot, alongside the hand-painted SUNG script mark, a signed monogram for Frederick Moore and painted Noke signature for Charles Noke, incised 1771.
Excellent condition, free from chips, cracks or repair, measuring 10.5 in. H.
