A Danish midcentury open salt cellar and pepper shaker in sterling silver decorated with maroon red enamel from Anton Michelsen silversmiths of Copenhagen, dating circa 1950. The set consists of a salt dip with enamelwork over a floral motif while the pepper Shaker has a repeating leaf pattern under the enamelling. The salt cellar is stamped AM / STERLIING / DENMARK on the base and measures .75 in. height x 2 in. diameter. The Shaker is stamped A MICHELSEN / COPENHAGEN / STERLING / DENMARK on the base and measures 1.75 in. H x 1.5 in. W. The pieces are in good condition: the silver shows a few faint scratches and a couple of tiny nicks. The dark red enamel is undamaged and there are no monograms. Anton Michelsen (1809-1877) was a pioneering Danish silver and goldsmith, establishing his own company in 1841. Michelsen was appointed Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders in 1848. For four generations, the Michelsen firm was a leading and influential dynasty of gold and silversmiths, designing many jewelry and silver commissions for the Danish Royal Family.
