Description
Customer Reviews
An antique French inkwell in glazed faience with contrasting gilt bronze mounts and lid in the French Neoclassical style, designed by Paul Jean Milet (1870-1950) for the Paul Milet Pottery at Sevres, France, circa 1915.
The inkwell's exterior is decorated with a sophisticated stippled glaze of poudré blue accented with contrasting
ormolu
mounts at the base, rim, and lid.
Very good condition; clean inside with original glass insert and a little wear to gilding on the lid, marked underfoot with the early Atelier Milet printed mark consisting of a blue MP / SEVRES within a dotted circle, used prior to 1930. The inkwell measures 3.63 in. W x 2.88 in. H.
The Milet Pottery at Sevres was the product of a dynasty of ceramic artists beginning with Paul Milet's father, Felix Optat Milet. Paul Milet was eventually succeeded by his son, Henri Milet.
