An antique letter holder from Bradley and Hubbard Manufacturing Company (1854-1949) of Meriden, Connecticut, dating circa 1885. This substantial Victorian desk accessory is made of cast iron plated with brass. This same Bradley & Hubbard letter holder design is part of the Smithsonian Institution's Castle Collection in Washington DC. The side panels depict a hunting scene with a stag leaping over a fence accompanied by dogs in pursuit. Both outer panels and a central divider attach to the rectangular base with six screws. The elaborate base is decorated with an egg and dart border and rests on four scroll feet. Very good condition with some expected darkening and patination of the brass, measuring 9 in. Long x 5 in. Depth x 6.25 in. Height. The base bears the marks: B & H {for Bradley & Hubbard} / 3549 / 7030.
