A large antique serving spoon and ladle in heavy silver plate from Christofle of France. The French serving utensils were made in 1878 in Christofle's Chinon pattern, also called Fiddle and Thread.

The pieces retain their original satin-lined, fitted box, measuring 15 in. L x 6 in W. The serving spoon has a pointed tip at the end of its bowl and measures 11.13 in. L. The back of the handle bears the CC (for Charles Christofle) oval mark in a square box, 78 in a square (for 1878,) and CHRISTOFLE inside rectangular cartouche. The ladle measures 13.75 in. L. The marks on the back of the handle are very faint and difficult to read.

Both items are in good condition without monograms. There are surface scuffs, shallow scratches and a little tarnish. The embossed box shows more wear. The satin interior lining is faded and there are a few spots of discoloration. The outer surfaces are scuffed and scratched. The hinges and clasp are intact and work properly.
