Mougin Frères antique stoneware vase with a golden metallic glaze, made in Nancy, France between 1906 and 1916. Decorated with an organic Art Nouveau decor scheme of hand-painted crackle-style ornament resembling vines or seaweed in blue with purple accents over a golden metallic ground. The art pottery vase measures 7.25 in. H x 5 in. W and is signed and numbered on base: incised Mougin / Nancy; hand marked: France / 4001 in black. The vessel is in very good condition with several pin head glaze bubbles toward the base.

The Mougin brothers Joseph (1876-1961) and Pierre (1880-1955) studied and worked in Paris before relocating to Nancy in 1906. The brothers were sculptors, ceramicists, and contemporaries of the École de Nancy, participating in the school's exhibitions and creating their most artistic and desirable work throughout the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods.
