An exquisite Art Deco gilded, fluted and flaring lotus form shallow bowl or dish by Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972). The piece comes directly from this American metalworker's estate and reflects Zimmermann's ability to interpret historical design sources for her clients; the pointed-petal form relates directly to Chinese design precedents from the T'ang Dynasty (618-906 CE). Two examples of gilded and fluted floriform designs for a similar dish and bowl are illustrated on page 290 in The Jewelry and Metalwork of Marie Zimmermann, 2011.

The shallow bowl is a simple and abstracted lotus blossom design composed of eight flaring petals with pointed tips, gilded in a rich, golden satin finish with visible hammer marks overall. Very good original condition with expected scuffs on base and a few nicks and scratches on the upper surface. Fully marked underfoot: MARIE ZIMMERMANN MAKER around her MZ artist's cipher; measuring 7.75 in. diameter.

Provenance: The Estate of Marie Zimmermann.
