An Arts and Crafts period copper vessel by American metalworker, jeweler and designer, Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972). The vase comes directly from Zimmermann's estate and dates, circa early 1920s while she maintained a workshop studio and showroom at the National Arts Club at Gramercy Park in New York City.

This restrained design with a flaring rim is in very good and original condition. The exterior is decorated with a subtle hammered surface and a lovely old patina with oxidation spots. The interior patina is darker than the outer surfaces. Stamped MARIE ZIMMERMANN MAKER around her MZ artist's cipher underfoot, measuring 7.38 in. H x 8.38 in. W x 5 in. D.

This vase was illustrated with a terra cotta patina in Arts and Decoration magazine in January, 1922. "Industrial Art and the Craftsman: Who Are Our Designers?" by Matlack Price. The article featured five of Zimmermann's designs in silver and art metal.

Provenance: The Estate of Marie Zimmermann.
