A handsome pair of Art Deco covered compotes in silvered copper with knopped stems and amber-colored bakelite finials by noted American metalworker, jeweler and designer, Marie Zimmermann (1879-1972). This Art Deco design dates to the 1920s while Zimmermann's atelier was at the National Arts Club at Gramercy Park in New York.

Fully marked inside each lid with Zimmermann's cipher over M. ZIMMERMANN / MAKER, 5354 etched by hand beneath. Very good condition overall with minor imperfections including two tiny dings and a little loss to the top of one bakelite finial where it meets the metal stem. Each measure 8 in. H x 7 in dia. at widest.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City holds the largest collection of objects by Marie Zimmermann, accessioning their first object in 1922. Examples of Zimmermann's designs in metalwork and jewelry design are also in the permanent collections of The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Wolfsonian-Florida International University and the Columbus Museum of Art.
