An exquisite vintage smoking or vanity set with an intricate botanical theme in the Art Nouveau style by Manfred Veyhl of Germany, active from 1928 to the 1950s.
Each piece is in very good condition and inscribed 1000/1000 signifying a pure silver overlay crafted from the highest quality of silver available. The Thomas Ivory porcelain bodies in a contrasting deep shade of fuchsia / maroon were manufactured at the F. Thomas Porcelain Factory, in Marktredwitz, Bavaria.
The covered box measures 5 in. L x 3.75 in. W x 1.75 in. H with a green underglaze Thomas Ivory Bavaria mark underfoot used between 1939 and 1952 alongside Manfred Veyhl's Silberporzellan 1930-1950 anniversary mark. The Roman numeral III appears under the Thomas Ivory mark and also appears inside the lid. The round dishes measures 4.38 in. diameter with the same Thomas Ivory Bavaria accompanied by hand-written 4810-79. One dish also has the Veyhl anniversary mark.
Thomas Porcelain Factory was founded by Fritz Thomas in 1903 and Rosenthal AG became a major shareholder in 1908. The Porzellanfabrik Thomas continued operating as an independent subsidiary of Rosenthal.
