A large secessionist oval serving tray designed as a silver metal frame enclosing a porcelain tile insert from the Villeroy & Boch Manufactory at Dresden in Germany.

The twin-handled antique platter dates to the early 20th century, circa 1905. The porcelain insert is a Secessionist (also called Jugendstil and Art Nouveau) design of a darker blue and white against a pale ground of blue-grey. The tray is surrounded by a pierced metal gallery with a sturdy handle at either end. Marked underfoot with the "Mercury" Ink stamp used from 1874 - 1909 over decor number 2519.

The tray is substantial and the porcelain insert is secure. The antique platter measures 16 in. L (or 18.5 in. L handle to handle) x 12 in. W x 1.25 in H and is in very good condition overall with some fine crazing and a few small and shallow scratches that do not mar the design. The silver metal shows oxidation spots and there is evidence on the base of four original feet, now removed.
