A handsome early 20th century copper jug with a distinctive embossed lizard skin surface decoration from Joseph Sankey and Sons, Ltd., of Bilston, Staffordshire in England. The company described the piece as a "hot water jug" in period advertising.

The large pitcher displays well with a lovely, old patina complimenting a sleek, tapering shape with wire-wrapped upper and lower rims and riveted handle. The jug is fully marked on the base with Sankey's Neptune Art Ware trademark stamp and the number 3. Good condition with a few small and minor indents in keeping with age and use, measuring 10.25 in. H. x 6.5 in. W (handle to spout).

Joseph Sankey & Sons (JS&S) was an English art metal firm operating circa 1896 through the early 1930s. JS&S manufactured domestic hollowware objects in brass, copper, and chrome including decorative trays and salvers, ewers, tea caddies, watering cans, and jardinieres.
