Description
Customer Reviews
A set of four antique French porcelain oyster plates from Société Gérard, Dufraisseix and Morel (formerly Charles Field Haviland) of Limoges, France. The molded 'Wave' pattern plates have five wells for oysters over ice surrounding a smaller, central well for lemon or sauce. The pieces date to the last quarter of the 19th century and were manufactured between 1881 and 1890.
Versions of these wave form plates are published in Jeffery Snyder's "Collecting Oyster Plates" on pages 79- 81.
Each plate is hand-painted with scalloped gilt edges. Two plates have pink blossoms and two have purple; all accented with golden yellow, grey, and white accents. The plates are in very good condition with a small amount of age-related wear to the gilt edges. Each fully marked on base with green printed CFH over GDM mark alongside the black circular CH Field Haviland / Limoges factory mark. The plates measure 1 in. H x 9 in. diameter.
In 1881, the Charles Field Haviland firm became Gerard, Dufraisseix & Morel carrying the mark of "CFH / GDM" until 1890. The firm became Gerard, Dufraisseix, et Cie from 1890 through 1900.
